Cabler looks to bolster alternative programming
In staffing up its reality division, USA Network has hired Scott Friedman as VP of production, alternative programming.
Most recently a production exec serving as a consultant for USA, Friedman will help the NBCUniversal cabler kickstart a handful of shows that are set to debut over the next few months and into next year.
Cabler is looking to diversify its programming slate and has made reality a high priority going forward.
Among the USA reality shows on the horizon are the Kurt Warner-hosted “The Moment,” where second chances are given to those who saw their careers end unexpectedly; “The Choir,” with U.K. choirmaster Gareth Malone bringing citizens from downtrodden U.S. cities together to sing and raise spirits; relationship series “Romancing the Globe,” where love leads to the potential of betrayal; and “Bride or Best Man,” as a groom and best man are in charge of planning a wedding.
Friedman’s previous stops include Morningstar Entertainment and Twentieth Television.
