LONDON — UKTV, the British digital TV network owned by BBC Worldwide and Scripps Networks Interactive, has acquired exclusive multi-screen rights to “Beauty and the Beast” from CBS Studios Intl.Show will air on UKTV entertainment web Watch. The acquisition was announced by Catherine Mackin, UKTV’s director of program acquisitions, and Stephen Tague, senior VP Europe, CBS Studios Intl. Mackin said, “CBS’s ‘Beauty and the Beast’ feels fresh and contemporary while also encompassing an out-of-the-ordinary feel to it, which is perfect for Watch’s viewers.” “Beauty and the Beast” is likely to bow in early 2013. Show stars Kristin Kreuk as Catherine Chandler, a homicide cop who becomes drawn into a dangerous relationship with eccentric doctor Vincent Keller, played by Jay Ryan, the “Beast” of the title. UKTV has become a significant buyer of U.S. fare in the past couple of years. “Grimm” and “Alcatraz” are both hits for Watch. “Beauty and the Beast” is produced by CBS Television Studios in association with Take 5 Prods./Whizbang Films, and distributed by CBS Studios Intl.
