Former Hallmark, Lifetime exec to head programming unit
Longtime TV vet Barbara Fisher has been hired as senior VP of original programming at GMC.
In the newly created position, Fisher will oversee development and production of the cabler’s original movies and plays. Based in Los Angeles, she will report to topper Brad Siegel, whom she will aid in the launch of the net’s World Premiere Series franchise.
Siegel said Fisher will spearhead the net’s expanding original programming, a commitment that began this year and has already seen 17 original movies added to next year’s slate.
Before GMC, Fisher was senior VP of original programming for Hallmark owner Crown Media Holdings, overseeing all original programming. From 2002-04 Fisher was exec VP at Lifetime.
Founded in 2004 as the Gospel Music Channel, GMC has been undergoing a rebranding since 2010 as a cabler for uplifting family and music entertainment. The net recently greenlit original series “Bulloch Family Ranch” and “I Forgive You.”
