BERLIN — Turner Broadcasting System is launching a new channel in Germany.
Marketed as a women’s and lifestyle web, Glitz will offer international films, series and docutainment formats as well as in-house produced shows.
The channel, which primarily targets femmes, will launch on May 8 on Germany’s biggest cabler, Kabel Deutschland, which reaches 8.7 million households across 13 of Germany’s 16 federal states.
Turner Germany is in talks with other distribution partners to broaden the channel’s reach, including telco giant Deutsche Telekom.
Glitz boasts German TV premieres of U.S. series such as “Girls,” “Parks and Recreation,” “Unforgettable,” “Pretty Little Liars” and “Hot in Cleveland.”
Local in-house productions will include “Simply Dana,” a reality show about the life of Dana Schweiger, wife of German star Til Schweiger.
“InStyle” is a fashion, beauty and lifestyle skein and celebrity magazine “Privat bei …” will offer in-depth interviews with personalities such as mountain climber Reinhold Messner and film director Soenke Wortmann (“Pope Joan”).
Glitz joins Turner’s growing roster of channels in Germany, which also includes CNN Intl., TNT Film, TNT Serie, Cartoon Network and Boomerang.
