After the departure of several powerhouse cast members before its 38th season, “Saturday Night Live” has tapped three featured players to join the latenight sketch comedy series.
Aidy Bryant, Tim Robinson and Cecily Strong join “SNL” via the Windy City. All three are alums of Second City, the improv comedy troupe that helped launch the careers of past “SNL” cast members including Chris Farley, Rachel Dratch and Mike Myers.
Fresh faces arrive after “SNL” mainstays Andy Samberg and Kristen Wiig ankled the skein after last season. Abby Elliott’s time with the show also ended this year after a four-year stint. In addition, the status of central cast member Jason Sudeikis remains up in the air as the vet has yet to re-sign with the show even though the new season is days away.
“SNL” returns this Saturday with Seth MacFarlane as host.
