Dwayne Johnson to produce, act as mentor on competition show
TNT believes it has a hero in Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
“The Hero,” greenlit by the Turner cabler and scheduled to premiere in 2013, is a new reality-competition series that stars and is exec produced by Johnson and his production partner Dany Garcia.
Net has ordered eight episodes. Ben Silverman’s Electus and 5×5 Media will produce.
Concept brings 10 people together in a house and then assigns them various missions that will test their brains, brawn and morality. Johnson will serve as a mentor and motivator, encouraging contestants to reach beyond their limits.
Incorporating social media, viewers will be able to vote each week for the contestant they consider to be the most heroic.
Johnson, who rose to celebrity as a professional wrestler before moving on as actor and producer, has several film projects in the works, including another “Fast and the Furious” pic.
“Dany and I couldn’t be more excited to enter into our first official foray in TV production,” said Johnson. ” ‘The Hero’ speaks to everything I believe in when it comes to challenging ourselves, becoming better people and making the right choices while growing from the wrong ones.”
