TLC, which has sometimes delved into the lighter side of addiction, is offering a darker take on the subject matter.
Hourlong spesh “Cracking Addiction,” which bows at 9 p.m. Oct. 3, centers around a mother-son intervention team based in Dallas as they plan two interventions with a heroin and meth addict. Debbie and Brandon Knauss’ family biz, Vital Intervention Professionals, was spawned after Brandon received an intervention from Phil McGraw to save him from his severe drug dependency. The 2004 episode of “Dr. Phil” became one of the first TV interventions and McGraw revisited the family during later seasons. TLC’s other unscripted forays into the addiction realm include “My Strange Addiction” and 2010′s “Addicted.” “Cracking Addiction” is produced by Ghost Mountain.TLC plans ‘Cracking Addiction’ special
