Syfy renews ‘Total Blackout’

Gameshow is cabler's top new series of '12

Syfy’s competition series “Total Blackout” has been renewed for a second season.

Net has ordered 16 half-hour episodes of the extreme gameshow in which contestants partake in challenges for cash prizes while in complete darkness. Jaleel White of “Family Matters” hosts the series.

Program is the cabler’s highest-rated new skein of 2012, with its first season averaging 1.2 million total viewers. Format has also found success in foreign markets, including Denmark, Japan and Russia.

” ‘Total Blackout’ has become a compelling new hit and a great addition to our growing slate of unscripted programming,” said Mark Stern, prexy of Syfy’s original content.

“Total Blackout” is produced by FremantleMedia North America and was created by Henrik Nielsen.
