TV's Top 10: New Faces for Fall - Meg Chambers Steedle
Considering it would be only her second television acting gig, you might say Meg Chambers Steedle got both lucky and Nucky.
The North Carolina native snagged the plum role opposite Steve Buscemi as Nucky Thompson’s new Broadway-actress squeeze in the third season of HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire.”
She nabbed the part after the producers tossed her an unexpected curve ball during her audition.
“When I initially went in, the role then wasn’t what it ended up being,” she says. “Basically it was a two-month process, and later they called me back in for the writers and producers and said they wanted to see me sing and dance. At this point I said, ‘Oh, this is the fun part.’ I went to school for the performing arts at Northwestern. I studied all that. My first performances were for church choirs.”
Steedle, whose only other job on television was a guest starring spot opposite Dana Delaney in an episode of the ABC drama “Body of Proof,” is excited to play Billy Kent, the Broadway singer-hoofer who captures Nucky’s attention.
“I’m so grateful to work with Steve,” she says. “Literally, in my second job I get to work with this master. It’s wonderful to watch him work, how he treats people on the set, and the fact that he’s a family man in real life.”
And she loves the show’s setting.
“I grew up going to the Jersey Shore every summer. My mom is from New Jersey so we would wind up going through south Jersey to the beach,” she says. “I always thought working on ‘Boardwalk Empire’ would be amazing. Period dramas are my favorite kind of shows, and this takes place with a part of my childhood.”
