SPT to bow its first U.S. Spanish-lingo channel

Cine Sony Television will air on Verizon FiOS TV

Sony Pictures Television is set to launch its first Spanish-language entertainment channel Stateside.

Aimed at the burgeoning U.S. Hispanic market, Cine Sony Television will debut on Verizon FiOS TV in August before expanding to other carriers. SPT senior VP Superna Kalle will oversee the new channel.

Programming for Cine Sony TV includes blockbusters from various studios including Sony Pictures’ vast library of 3,500 pics. Lineup will include dubbed versions of “The International,” “District 9,” “Snatch” and “Step Brothers” as well as SPT-produced Spanish-lingo TV skeins “Los Caballeros las prefieren brutas” and “Los Simuladores.”

“The U.S. Hispanic market provides a significant growth opportunity for our channels business,” said SPT Worldwide Networks prexy Andy Kaplan.

Verizon FiOS TV now claims 4.5 million customers. Cine Sony Television will form part of Verizon FiOS TV’s La Conexion and Spanish-language packages.

Available for $89.99 per month in a bundle that includes phone and FiOS Internet, La Conexion offers customers both Spanish and English programming, with more than 185 channels including 30 in HD and 67 Spanish-language channels.

Verizon’s Spanish-language package, available for $12.99 per month, features 67 or more Spanish channels, including news, sports and entertainment.
