2.4 mil watch premiere as 'Jersey Shore' franchise sees continued erosion

The “Jersey Shore” spinoffs continue to prove that the whole may be better than the sum of its parts.

Snooki & JWoww” registered 2.4 million viewers in its premiere Thursday night, down from the 2.9 million who watched the debut of “The Pauly D Project” in March. “Pauly D” eventually slipped to a million for the season finale.

When two repeat telecasts are included “Snooki & JWoww” garnered 4.1 million.

“Jersey Shore” still remains MTV’s top show, but its numbers have gone down as well. Season five, which began in January, drew 7.6 million for its debut before slipping to 5 million for the finale.

Net has been shifting to scripted programming of late and is set to debut the second season of “Awkward” next Thursday as a lead-out for the second episode of “Snooki & JWoww.”

Cabler also recently announced Brit import “Inbetweeners” will begin Aug. 20.
