‘Smash’ helmer to direct NBC drama pilot

Michael Mayer to helm 'Do No Harm' for Universal TV

As “Smash” readies for its premiere next week, NBC has tapped helmer Michael Mayer to direct another Peacock pilot, “Do No Harm.”

The Jekyll and Hyde-themed drama revolves around a brilliant neurosurgeon who wresles with his dangerous alter-ego. David Schulner penned the pilot and exec producers with Rachel Kaplan and Peter Traugott for Universal TV. Mayer will serve as a co-exec producer.

Mayer has made his mark on Broadway in recent years after helming tuners “Spring Awakening” and “American Idiot.” NBC’s tuner-drama “Smash” marked his first TV pilot. He most recently helmed the Main Stem revival of “On a Clear Day You Can See Forever” with Harry Connick Jr.
