‘Small Potatoes’ heads for bigscreen

Animated mockumentary shopped for distribution

“Meet the Small Potatoes,” the first animated feature from Little Airplane Prods., has wrapped principal photography and is in discussion for a theatrical release this year.

Malcolm McDowell has the voice of the manager of a band in “Potatoes,” an animated mock rockumentary. Little Airplane topper Josh Selig (“The Wonder Pets”) wrote and directed the film, which features original songs from Jerry Bock (“Fiddler on the Roof”), who passed away in 2010.

The film includes more than 1,000 animated avatars of actual fans of the shortform “Small Potatoes” TV series. The images were culled from the show’s Facebook page.

“The ‘Small Potatoes’ television series now airs in over 20 countries,” Selig said. “We knew the time was right for them to make their jump to the bigscreen, and we believe this is the first time a feature film has integrated a band’s Facebook community into the actual cast of the film.”
