Slade on board to direct NBC’s ‘Hannibal’ pilot

Series is update on characters from 'Red Dragon' novel

David Slade is on board to direct the first seg of NBC’s “Hannibal.”

Helmer, whose last bigscreen effort was “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse,” has done some episodic TV work in the past. He directed the pilot of NBC’s drama “Awake” as well as an episode from the last season of AMC’s “Breaking Bad.”

Written by Bryan Fuller (“Pushing Daisies”), who exec produces with Martha DeLaurentiis, Sara Colleton, Jesse Alexander and Katie O’Connell, “Hannibal” is based on the characters from author Thomas Harris’ novel “Red Dragon.” Slade will exec produce the pilot.

Series is being produced by Gallic shingle Gaumont Intl. Television. Peacock has already ordered 13 episodes.

Hugh Dancy has been cast as FBI agent Will Graham, whose mentor is the treacherous Dr. Hannibal Lecter.
