Sky News Arabia to bow May 6

Channel is j.v. with BSkyB and Abu Dhabi Media Investment

CANNES — Sky News Arabia, the 24-hour Arabic-language satcaster, will bow May 6.

A joint venture between News Corp.’s U.K. paybox and the Abu Dhabi Media Investment Corp, the channel promises “a new horizon” for news reporting across the Arab world.

The announcement was made at a press confab held by channel topper, Nart Bouran, at Sky News Arabia’s studios in Abu Dhabi.

He said, “The Sky News Arabia idea was born more than two years ago. Our aim has been to create an impartial and independent breaking news channel for the Arab world across multiple platforms.”

With nearly 400 staff, Sky News Arabia has been active since its website,, launched in beta format in February.

The broadcast platform has been in 24-hour rehearsals ahead of its bow and recently revealed the 16 presenters from across the region who will anchor the channel.
