LONDON — Sky News Arabia, the 24-hour Arabic-language satcaster, launched on Sunday to more than 50 million homes across the Middle East and North Africa.
The joint venture between Abu Dhabi Media Investment Corp. and News Corp.’s BSkyB has promised to offer a “new and fresh approach to news across the Arab world.”
Channel also launched its mobile apps to users as well as a fully completed website.
ADMIC and Sky News Arabia chairman Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber hosted a launch ceremony for the channel at the Jumeriah Ethiad Towers in Abu Dhabi on Sunday.
“The region demanded an Arab news product which incorporates both the technological developments and the fast changing media consumption habits that are transforming how news is gathered and disseminated,” he said in a speech.
He added that Sky News Arabia represented “a channel launched from the heart of the Arab world for the Arab world.”
“I am confident Sky News Arabia will become an icon for objective news reporting,” he added.
Channel has more than 400 staff to date.
