Comedy series a hit in Brazil, may arrive Stateside

Comedy troupe Second City has acquired North American rights to the Brazilian series “Sketch It Out” and has plans to bring it Stateside.

Originally produced by Globo TV, half-hour has been a hit on local Brazilian television for eight years. Premise is that comedians attempt to interpret the real-life stories of the common man.

“We are confident of its potential in North America, with numerous ancillary opportunities across multiple platforms,” said Ricardo Scalamandre, head of international business for Globo.

Second City, based in Chicago with nightclubs and improv schools also in Los Angeles and Toronto, will co-produce and will likely look to sell “Sketch It Out” as a syndie program as well as possibly via online platforms. Second City has previously produced “SCTV,” “Second City Presents” and “Next Comedy Legend.”

Deal was brokered by APA, former Warner Bros. syndie topper Dick Robertson, producer Tony Fantozzi and attorney Robert Myman.
