Producer hopes to up shingle's scripted fare
Ray Ricord has inked a multiyear producing deal with Relativity’s television division, RelativityReal.
Ricord joins Relativity with experience at the Disney TV networks, including ABC and ABC Family. He recently exec produced the “This American Housewife” pilot for Lifetime, which starred Antonio Banderas and Melanie Griffith. The cabler, however, choose not to pick go forward with the project to series.
RelativityReal topper Tom Forman and Ricord will collaborate on scripted fare in hopes of selling it to both cable and broadcast nets, as well as develop ways to adapt Relativity films such as “Limitless,” “Immortals” and “Haywire” for the small screen. The pod deal is a way for Relativity, which already has a considerable nonscripted slate, to further push into scripted fare.
“Ray is a rare find,” said Forman. “He is a talented producer and a determined entrepreneur. We’re thrilled to have him aboard as we continue to grow our scripted business alongside our robust unscripted slate.”
This is the fifth major pod deal from RelativityReal in the last three years. Other in-house producers include Jay Blumenfield, Tony Marsh, Ellen Rakieten, Ashley Tisdale and Wilmer Valderrama.
Shingle’s unscripted programming includes skeins such as “The Great Food Truck Race,” “Gigolos,” and “Hollywood Girls Night.” Food Network recently picked up Rakieten’s “Trisha’s Southern Kitchen” for a second seaon.
