Post-Olympics, morning ratings race tight

'GMA' on top in total viewers, 'Today' edges ahead in demo

With the Summer Olympics in the rear-view mirror, ratings for the morning news shows pretty much reverted to pre-Games levels last week.

Nielsen estimates for Aug. 13-17 put ABC’s “Good Morning America” back on top in total viewers (4.65 million to 4.40 million for NBC’s “Today”), though the Peacock program narrowly led in the key adults 25-54 demo (1.80 million to 1.74 million).

“Today” had dominated the ayem ratings race for years until “GMA” busted through this spring. The Alphabet show has now ranked first in total viewers for 10 of the last 19 weeks (with NBC winning twice recently during its coverage of the Olympics).
