'The Slap' nabs drama series prize

SYDNEY — The big winner at Sunday night’s Logie awards, the Aussie TV kudos, was pubcaster the ABC, which took a third of the prizes.

Usually eclipsed by the commercial webs, the ABC won outstanding drama series for its hit mini “The Slap,” which also scored Melissa George (“Grey’s Anatomy”) an outstanding actress kudo.

The skein has been a hit in the international market, where it is repped by DCD. It was picked up by BBC4 for the U.K., Globosat in Brazil, DIRECTV in the U.S., SVT in Sweden, NRK in Norway, YLE in Finland and TVO in Canada. Sundance Channel Global has the rights for Asia, Eastern Europe, Greece, Turkey, Spain and Portugal.

Seven Network, the ratings king and awards frontrunner, took home just six kudos; paybox Foxtel went home empty-handed.

The top kudo, the Gold Logie, went to Nine Network’s Hamish Blake for comedy skein “Hamish and Andy’s Gap Year,” while second tier silver awards went to thesps Asher Keddie (“Offspring”) and Hugh Sheridan (“Packed to the Rafters”).
