Oxygen breathes new life into slate

NBCU cabler adds docuseries; hosts set for other shows

NBCUniversal’s femme-focused cablers touted new additions to their lineups Wednesday at the TV Critics Assn. press tour.

E! hosted a luncheon with key execs and talent from the net’s fresh reality series like “Married to Jonas” and Whitney Cumming’s weekly yakker, “Love You, Mean It.” E! topper Suzanne Kolb discussed the net’s forthcoming push into the scripted realm, saying that E! has narrowed the project field to several prospective pilots. The tone of E!’s scripted programming will be “glossy like the CW,” but with a bit more grit, she said.

Oxygen has greenlit an untitled docuseries that will follow Maria Menounos as she balances career and personal life. Net also announced that on season two of “Best Ink,” Pete Wentz will replace Kimberley Caldwell as host.

Oxygen’s latest competition skein “The Face” will see the addition of supermodels Karolina Kurkova and Coco Rocha to the team of coaches that will guide aspiring female models. Photographer Nigel Barker, a judge for the first 18 cycles of model competition “America’s Next Top Model,” will host “The Face.”

Announcements come as Oxygen Media gains momentum in the original programming realm with popular skeins like “The Glee Project” and the “Bad Girls Club” franchise. Net recently placed among the top 20 cablers in women 18-34. Other original series set to bow in Oxygen’s upcoming season include “My Shopping Addiction,” “Hollywood Unzipped: Stylist Wars” and “I’m Having Their Baby.”
