‘Nikki and Sara’ join MTV latenight

Standup comedians to host weekly 11 p.m. show

MTV will look to boost its latenight profile with a new comedy series, “The Nikki and Sara Show.”

Skein will be hosted by comedians Nikki Glaser and Sara Schaefer and feature segments like celeb interviews, comedy sketches and street pieces. Glaser and Schaefer have already seen success as a duo with their popular podcast, “You Had To Be There.” Both standup comedians, Schaefer has won two Emmys for her work as Head Blogger on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon,” and Glaser has appeared as a semi-finalist on “Last Comic Standing.”

“The Nikki and Sara Show” will occupy a weekly 11 p.m. timeslot, though the day of the week and premiere date have yet to be determined.

David Janollari, head of programming at MTV, said the pair is “funny and smart with a little edge sprinkled throughout — just the right fit for the timeslot and our audience.”

Elsewhere in latenight, MTV’s male-focused sibling net, MTV2, saw success with ratings darling “Guy Code,” and is bringing the show back for a second season.

Skein features experts, rappers, comedians and other talking-heads offering advice for guys in both everyday and absurd situations.

Show’s first run secured a spot as the net’s highest-rated original programming ever. In its second season, “Guy Code” will remain on the cabler’s Tuesday night lineup that emphasizes original programming geared toward a male audience.

Other series in the lineup include “Nitro Circus Live” and gameshow “Hip Hop Squares.” Since bolstering its Tuesday night with these skeins, MTV2 has accrued double-digit ratings increases in core demos, including a 35% increase in males 12-34.

The second season of “Guy Code” will bow on July 17 at 11 p.m., but a teaser of the series will air a week before its premiere on July 10, after the season finale of “Hip Hop Squares.”
