Neil Marshall set to direct ‘Black Sails’

Helmer onboard for first episode of Starz series

“Game of Thrones” helmer Neil Marshall has been tabbed to direct the first episode of “Black Sails,” the upcoming pirate-themed Starz series from Michael Bay.

Marshall, who directed the “Blackwater” episode of HBO’s popular drama, will begin lensing the Bay exec produced series when production begins later this year in Cape Town, South Africa.

Pay cabler, which opted to order the series without a pilot, will air eight episodes of “Black Sails” in 2014.

Show takes place 20 years prior to the adventures of the Robert Louis Stevenson classic “Treasure Island” and centers on Capt. Flint and his crew.

Besides Bay, other exec producers are his Platinum Dunes partners Brad Fuller and Andrew Form, as well as showrunner Jon Steinberg.
