'Nightcrawler' centers on disgraced cop and murder victim's daughter

Neal Baer is working the late shift for CBS, fielding a detective drama dubbed “Nightcrawler.”

Project revolves around a disgraced homicide detective who gets a second chance when he begins working with a murder victim’s daughter with a genetic disorder that prevents her from going out in the sun.

Baer is writing the script through his overall deal at CBS TV Studios. It’s the second project he’s set up at the Eye this development cycle. He’s also exec producing an untitled medical drama about a married couple who are prominent physicians, inspired by the book “Your Medical Mind” by Jerome Groopman and Pamela Hartzman. That project is being penned by Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters, who also exec produce with Cathy Konrad and James Mangold.

Among other projects, Baer, who is also a licensed physician, is also working on a book and docu about the history of soda pop and the beverage’s role in the nation’s obesity crisis (Daily Variety, July 2).

Baer relocated to CBS TV Studios last year after a long tenure with Dick Wolf as the showrunner of “Law & Order: SVU.” Last season he was showrunner-exec producer on the Eye drama “A Gifted Man.”

Baer is repped by Paradigm.
