VANCOUVER — NBCUniversal Intl. has come aboard as distributor for new Canuck cop show “Motive,” filming in Vancouver.
Created by Daniel Cerone, former exec producer and showrunner on “Dexter” and exec producer on “The Mentalist,” the show turns the standard police-procedural genre upside down, finding out why a crime was committed rather than by whom. It’s not a whodunit, it’s a whydunit (Daily Variety, May 31)
The killer and victim are presented at the beginning of each episode. Detectives then try to figure out how the two lives intersected and why it culminated in murder.
(“The Killing”) stars as Detective Angie Flynn, alongside Louis Ferreira (“Durham County”), Brendan Penny (“Whistler”), Lauren Holly (“NCIS”) and Cameron Bright (“Twilight”).
“Motive” is produced by Vancouver-based Foundation Features and Lark Prods., with Rob Labelle, Louise Clark, Erin Haskett and Rob Merilees as exec producers.
Canuck commercial web CTV ordered 13 one-hour episodes to air in early 2013.
NBCU is currently shopping the show Stateside.
