New deal means additional coverage of matches from Roland Garros

NBC Sports Group has extended its deal with the French Open through 2024.

Move was important to the Peacock because it recently lost Wimbledon to ESPN and this remained the only grand slam tennis tournament that the net still telecasts.

As part of the renewal, there will be an additional 10 hours of live coverage from Roland Garros as well as more live streaming of matches. NBC will air the opening Sunday of the tournament, as it did this year for the first time, as well as the middle weekend, the men’s and women’s semifinals and finals.

NBC began televising the French Open in 1975. The tournament was covered by CBS from 1980-82 and returned to NBC in 1983, where it has remained since.

Several matches will likely be aired on NBC Sports Network, which continually looks for live programming to boost ratings.
