NBC has optioned the rights to “Surprise, Surprise,” a reboot of an unscripted British format, from ITV Studios America.
“Surprise” was last broadcast in Blighty 10 years ago, but was revived with success in China last year, and ITV has plans to present the show in the U.K. this fall. The format will also be on sale at next month’s MipTV confab. During its heyday, “Surprise” ran from 1984-97 in Britain with Cilla Black as its host. The show offered surprises of all kinds to members of the public, from pranks to the fulfillment of long-lost wishes.NBC has eyes on ‘Surprise’
