NBC, ABC set pilot pickups, renewals

Peacock adds two dramas; Alphabet returns seven skeins

As buzz about pilot pickups and the fate of bubble series hit a fever pitch on Thursday, NBC added a lavish soap (“Infamous”) and a moody psychological drama (“Do No Harm”) to its 2012-13 drama slate.

The Peacock also confirmed that “Parenthood” will be back for a fourth season of 15 episodes and that “30 Rock” is returning for a seventh, final season of 13 episodes. Another NBC laffer, Sony Pictures TV’s cult-fave comedy “Community,” got a fourth-season pickup for 13 segs.

ABC also made its no-duh scripted series renewals late Thursday, giving the nod to hot-shot frosh “Once Upon a Time” and “Revenge”; laffers “Modern Family,” “Suburgatory” and “The Middle”; and stalwart dramas “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Castle.” Still to come are expected orders for comedies “Happy Endings,” “Last Man Standing” and plucky midseason entry “Don’t Trust the B in Apt. 23.”

ABC’s new series orders are expected to land today, and the network could have more than its own development slate from which to choose. Studios are pitching the Alphabet some of the comedies Fox passed on earlier in the week, including Sony’s “Let It Go” and “El Jefe” and 20th Century Fox TV’s “Rebounding.” CBS is also expected to take a look at “Rebounding.”

Among ABC’s bubble shows, dramas “Body of Proof” and “Scandal” are said to look promising for pickups, more so than “GCB.” And “Private Practice” is in the midst of working out a deal for a sixth and final season of 13 segs. The drama pilot shortlist at ABC is believed to include sudsers “Americana,” “Nashville,” “Devious Maids,” mob drama “Penoza” and supernatural thriller “666 Park Avenue.”

CBS, meanwhile, is said to have nixed bringing back freshman drama “A Gifted Man,” and “CSI: Miami” remains a longshot for an 11th-season renewal. Same goes for first-season drama “Unforgettable.”

NBC’s “Infamous,” which was known as “Notorious” during development season, revolves around a femme detective who returns undercover to the wealthy family she grew up in — as the maid’s daughter — to solve the murder of the heiress who was once her closest friend. The Universal TV pilot was penned by Elizabeth Heldens, who exec produces with BermanBraun’s Gail Berman, Lloyd Braun and Gene Stein. Victor Garber, Tate Donovan, Meagan Good and Katherine LaNasa star.

“Do No Harm,” from U TV and Peter Traugott Prods., is a modern-day take on the Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde story, this time revolving around a renowned neurosurgeon.

David Schulner wrote the pilot and exec produces with Traugott, Rachel Kaplan and Michael Mayer, who directed the pilot. Cast includes Steven Pasquale, Alana De La Garza, Michael Esper and Ruta Gedmintas.

“Harm” joins NBC’s other drama orders including Warner Bros. TV’s “Revolution” and Universal TV’s “Chicago Fire.”

“Parenthood” exec producer Jason Katims still has a pilot pending at NBC, “County.” The medical drama toplined by Jason Ritter had been seen as a shoo-in for an order but has cooled off considerably as the Peacock gets down to the nitty gritty on its new series pickups.

Also Thursday, ABC gave full-season renewals to unscripted series “Shark Tank” and “Dancing With the Stars.”
