New relationship-based docuseries opens to 2.7 million Monday
Viewers stayed up late and tuned into MTV last night, landing “Teen Mom 2″ and “Catfish: The TV Show” strong premiere ratings.
The season-three preem of “Teen Mom 2″ ranked as the evening’s top original cable series among viewers 12-34, pulling 3.4 million total viewers in its 10 p.m. timeslot. The debut of “Catfish,” a docuseries about online relationships, averaged 2.7 million total viewers in its post-primetime 11 p.m. timeslot and was MTV’s highest-rated series debut since “Ridiculousness” in August 2011. Both programs also showed legs on social media, with numerous trending topics featuring the unscripted skeins appearing on Twitter throughout the night.
