MTV’s ‘Awkward’ earns season-three order

Scripted high school series a hit for Viacom cabler

Scripted series “Awkward” is getting a third season on MTV.

News was expected, but the high school drama will receive a 20-episode order — nearly double what it got in the first two seasons.

Series stars Ashley Rickards and draws 1.8 million viewers per week, according to Nielsen, a 6% gain over last season. And it continues to fare especially well in young femme demos.

Lauren Iungerich, who created “Awkward,” exec produces with Erin Ehrlich.

“Lauren’s creative vision makes ‘Awkward’ the perfect series for MTV,” said programming topper David Janollari.

Cabler also recently gave a big season-three order to “Teen Wolf.” Scripted laffers up next are British import “The Inbetweeners,” which debuts Aug. 20, and “Unemployed,” set for a fall premiere.
