‘MTV Movie Awards’ takes sharp ratings hit

Kudocast drops 29% but 'Teen Wolf' holds steady

The “MTV Movie Awards” took a steep 29% ratings hit from a year ago as 3.2 million tuned in Sunday night.

That was down from the 4.5 million who watched a year ago. In the 12-34 demo that is the cabler’s sweet spot, numbers also fell sharply — a 2.8 ratings versus last year’s 3.8 rating.

Competition was very tough Sunday, however. The NBA playoff game between the Miami Heat and Boston Celtics did very well and HBO offered the season finale of “Game of Thrones” while AMC aired the season penultimate episode of critical fave “Mad Men.” Also, scripted drama “Longmire” premiered strongly on A&E.

Good news for MTV was the return of “Teen Wolf,” which drew 2.1 million viewers and dropped only slightly from its premiere a year ago.
