Adapted U.K. import lasted only one season

After only one season, MTV has canceled adapted U.K. import “The Inbetweeners.”

News comes only a few weeks after Susanne Daniels was named president of the network, replacing David Janollari as head of programming.

The Inbetweeners,” which premiered Aug. 20, ran for 12 episodes but received neither strong ratings or significant social media buzz.

MTV has not had much success with its scripted slate, except for “Awkward” and “Teen Wolf.” Net is walking a difficult line of trying to balance scripted, which has a longer shelf life, and reality. Cash cow “Jersey Shore” is currently in its last season.

Daniels will be reaching out to the creative community looking for new hits to revitalize the Viacom cabler.

“The Inbetweeners” — about high school boys finding to find their social status — was exec produced by writer Brad Copeland, as well as Iain Morris, Damon Beesley and Aaron Kaplan.
