Morgan Spurlock forms Warpaint

Helmer launches commercial production company

Morgan Spurlock has formed a commercial production company dubbed Warpaint through his New York-based production banner Warrior Poets.

He has teamed with Keith Calder’s Los Angeles-based Snoot Entertainment and commercial production veteran Shannon Lords.

Warpaint will maintain offices in New York, Los Angeles and London.

Warpaint completed its first project in January with director Darren Aronofsky, who directed the upcoming campaign for Revlon featuring Emma Stone and Halle Berry. The company’s initial roster consists of Spurlock (“The Greatest Movie Ever Sold”); Rupert Wyatt (“Rise of the Planet of the Apes”); Gary Hustwit (“Helvetica,” “Objectified”); Adam Wingard (“You’re Next”); Liz Garbus (“Bobby Fischer Against the World”); Adam Lisagor (Sandwich Video); Michael Tucker (“Fightville,” “Gunner Palace,” MasterCard); Maggie Choo (Nike); and Damien Toogood (Olympus, Target, Pepsi).

“After working directly with brands and advertising agencies in the placement expose ‘The Greatest Movie Ever Sold,’ as well as directing multiple commercial spots for other production companies, I saw an opportunity to create a much more director driven entity,” Spurlock said. “Within Warpaint, our directors will have the freedom to not only experiment with new technologies and formats, but they will also own a larger stake in their work moving forward.”

Calder produced “Greatest Movie” alongside Warrior Poets and Spurlock’s producing partner, Jeremy Chilnick.
