Pact includes upcoming work in both series and specials
Singer Ricky Martin has signed a holding deal with Universal Television.
Pact calls for Martin to develop and star in upcoming series and specials that could air on NBC or be shopped to other networks.
Martin has sold more than 60 million albums and at present is starring on Broadway in “Evita.” He appeared as a Spanish teacher on Fox’s “Glee” in February.
His most popular album was “Livin’ la Vida Loca,” which was released in 1999. That was the same year he made a big splash at the Grammy Awards, which helped propel his career and mark the ascent of Latin American performers in the music biz.
“Ricky is an iconic superstar who is as talented as he is popular,” said Bela Bajaria, exec veep of Universal TV. “Whether he’s performing before sold-out concert crowds or starring on Broadway … Ricky connects with his audience in a very palpable way.”
