Thomopoulos tapped to drive scripted expansion

Mark Burnett has tapped former HBO programming exec Anne Thomopoulos to spearhead his foray into scripted TV.

The reality TV veteran, who has six unscripted series set for the broadcast nets’ recently announced primetime sked for 2012-13, is branching out as part of his joint venture with Hearst Corp., One Three Media.

Thomopoulos is joining as president of OTM’s new scripted division. Best known for her work at HBO on series including “Rome,” “Camelot,” “Generation Kill,” she served as senior VP of original programming at the premium cabler until 2004 but continued to work on some of HBO’s production as an independent producer thereafter.

“One Three’s energy, creativity and quality are at all-time highs,” Burnett said. “That is why now is the perfect time to have Anne join us as president of our scripted division.”

OTM already has a 10-hour miniseries in production at History based on the Bible; it’s set to bow next year. The company’s current series include “Shark Tank,” “Survivor” and “Celebrity Apprentice.”
