Rob Lowe is set to play attorney Jeff Ashton in the upcoming Lifetime movie “Prosecuting Casey Anthony.”
Movie is based on Ashton’s book “Imperfect Justice: Prosecuting Casey Anthony,” which was released shortly after Anthony was acquitted by a Florida last July against a murder charge of her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee. Movie will detail the preparation of Ashton and his legal team in readying for the case that grabbed national headlines. Fox Television Studios, which optioned the rights to the bestselling Harper Collins tome, is set to produce. Alison Cross will write the script and will exec produce with Jean Abounader and Michelle Manning. Peter Werner is directing. In January Lowe starred in the Lifetime movie “Drew Peterson: Untouchable,” which drew 5.8 million viewers and became basic cable’s most watched original movie preem in two years. “There are very few actors in the history of our business who have been able to have such success on such a broad range,” said Rob Sharenow, Lifetime’s exec VP of programming, of Lowe.
