Louis C.K. to tape HBO stand-up special

Comedian currently on 16-city tour

FX star Louis C.K. is temporarily shifting to HBO for an upcoming stand-up special.

The Emmy-winning comedian will tape an hourlong spesh during his current 16-city tour that concludes in February. Dave Becky and Blair Breard will exec produce with C.K. There is no air date set.

C.K. has appeared on HBO before, both in specials and the 2006 sitcom “Lucky Louie,” which lasted one season.

The special will also be available for $5 on C.K.’s own website several months after the initial HBO telecast. The first time he self-distributed his own special, “Live at the Beacon Theater,” the experiment grossed $1 million in the first 10 days it was available.

Although C.K. own the rights to the special, the progam will still appear on the net’s digital platform HBO Go following the premiere.

Earlier this year, C.K. told FX he would take a year off from his comedy series “Louie,” returning in 2014. He hosted “Saturday Night Live” on Nov. 3.
