Actress to star in Taylor-Burton relationship telepic
Lindsay Lohan has been confirmed to star as Elizabeth Taylor in Lifetime original movie “Liz & Dick.”
The telepic will center on the nearly 25-year relationship between Taylor and Richard Burton, to whom she was married two separate times.
“I have always admired and had enormous respect for Elizabeth Taylor,” Lohan said. “She was not only an incredible actress but an amazing woman as well. I am very honored to have been asked to play this role.”
Larry A. Thompson is exec producing the project, with a script from Christopher Monger (“Temple Grandin”). Production is to begin in June.
“We are thrilled Lindsay will portray beloved Hollywood legend Elizabeth Taylor,” Lifetime exec programming veep Rob Sharenow said. “She is one of the rare actresses who possesses the talent, beauty and intrigue to capture the spirit of such a provocative icon.”
The one-time child star, beset with legal problems in recent years, is scheduled to appear in an upcoming episode of Fox’s “Glee.” Her last feature film appearance was in 2010’s “Machete,” and her last lead role was “Labor Pains,” an intended feature film that went straight to ABC Family in 2009.
Lifetime has a lengthy history of fact-based original movies, but those have largely been with some sort of crime element attached — a historical, Hollywood-centered original movie is more rare.
