Lifetime has ordered drama pilot “Cinnamon Girl,” created by Renee Zellweger and Anthony Tambakis, with fellow exec producer Gavin O’Connor directing.
The project follows four young women coming of age in the late 1960s-early 1970s Los Angeles music scene, inspired in part by Zellweger’s own journey from rural Texas to Hollywood. She and Tambakis share story credit, with Tambakis writing the teleplay that explores political, social and sexual issues along with artistic ones.
O’Connor most recently directed 2011 pic “Warrior,” featuring Joel Hedgerton, Ton Hardy and Nick Nolte. He and Tambakis shared the film’s screenplay credit with Cliff Dorfman.
Zellweger previously worked with Lifetime on 2008 original movie “Living Proof.”
