Reality series examines late singer's family

Lifetime is counting on Whitney’s Houston’s legacy to capture ratings.

Femme-skewing cabler has greenlit docuseries “The Houston Family Chronicles” as a way to keep up with the late singer’s clan. Show will star Whitney’s sister-in-law and manager Pat Houston and Pat’s daughter Rayah, as well as Whitney’s Houston’s brother Gary, daughter Bobbi Kristina and mother Cissy Houston.

Ten hourlong episodes have been ordered and the show will premiere later this year. Exec producers are Julie Insogna-Jarrett, Seth Jarrett, Tracey Baker Simmons, Wanda Shelley, Pat Houston, Rob Sharenow, Gena McCarthy and Noah Pollack.

“The tragic loss of Whitney Houston left a void in the hearts of people all over the world, but certainly none more so than her beloved family,” said Sharenow, Lifetime’s exec VP of programming. “In this series, the multigenerations of the Houston family will bravely reveal their lives as they bond together to heal, love, and grow.”

According to Pat Houston, project had been in the works for years but the creative element changed drastically upon Whitney Houston’s death in February.
