Kids tune in to Disney’s ‘Sofia’

Sunday movie draws 5.2 million viewers, segues into series

Disney’s “Sofia the First: Once Upon a Princess” had a royal premiere Sunday night.

The 50-minute animated movie for very young tykes drew 5.2 million total viewers on Disney Channel, including 1.5 million with kids 2-5 and 3 million for children 2-11.

It was the most-watched program in the kids 2-5 demo in five years.

Both Disney Channel and Disney Junior will repeat “Sofia” several times this week.

The pic will segue into a Disney series in January and then roll out internationally later in the year.

Craig Gerber developed the movie while Jamie Mitchell is exec producer and director. Voice actors include Ariel Winter, Sara Ramirez, Wayne Brady and Tim Gunn.
