Karkanis joins AMC pilot ‘Low Winter Sun’

Drama has Mark Strong in talks to appear

Athena Karkanis has landed a prominent role in AMC drama pilot “Low Winter Sun.”

Thesp will play Dani Kahlil, an Egyptian-Muslim detective on a Detroit police force that blurs the line between cops and criminals.

“Low Winter Sun” is being adapted by showrunner Chris Mundy from the 2006 British mini. AMC Studios is co-producing with Endemol Studios.

Mark Strong, who starred in the original U.K. version, is negotiating to appear in the Stateside project.

Karkanis has worked extensively in Canada and as well as appearing on Stateside series “The Firm” and “Covert Affairs.”

She is repped by Sanders Armstrong Caserta management and Greene & Associates Talent Agency.
