Jewel to play June Carter Cash for Lifetime

Biopic to shoot in Atlanta, debut later this year

Lifetime has tabbed Jewel to play the title role in “The June Carter Cash Story.”

Telepic is based on John Carter Cash’s book of his mother’s life, “Anchored in Love: An Intimate Portrait of June Carter Cash.”

Richard Friedenberg will write the screenplay, and indie film director Allison Anders is set to direct. John Carter Cash will exec produce with Steven Michaels and Jonathan Koch. Asylum Entertainment is producing.

Production will begin this summer in Atlanta, with the film scheduled to debut later in the year. Story details Carter Cash’s early childhood in rural Virginia to her relationship with music icon Johnny Cash.

Jewel released her country music debut album, “Perfectly Clear,” in 2008. Her most recent album is 2011’s “The Merry Goes Round.”
