NBC wins in demos as 'Voice' puts end to declines

Opposed by no original scripted competition on rival broadcast networks, dramas ”House” on Fox and ”Smash” on NBC gained ratings ground Monday, a night won in the young-adult demo by NBC as its music competition series ”The Voice” looks to be even or up a bit vs. last week.

For the night, NBC prevailed in adults 18-49 while ABC held the edge in adults 25-54 and total viewers, with both nets benefiting from CBS airing all repeats.

According to preliminary national estimates from Nielsen, NBC’s ”The Voice” averaged a 3.7 rating/10 share in adults 18-49 from 8 to 10 p.m. to stand as the night’s top show among young adults — up a tick vs. its early demo score last Monday (3.6) and matching its final same-night national average. This would be the first time in seven weeks that ”The Voice” didn’t decline from the previous week.

Also likely boosted by a lack of original CBS comedies as competition was ABC’s ”Dancing With the Stars” (3.0/8 in 18-49, 17.3 million viewers overall), which was up week to week, edged ”The Voice” in adults 25-54 (4.4/10 to 4.3/10) and stood as Monday’s most-watched program overall. And at Fox, ”Bones” held steady at 8 p.m. (2.2/6 in 18-49, 7.2 million viewers overall) and ”House” (2.3/6 in 18-49, 6.5 million viewers overall) bounced back by about 15% from its season low of last week as it moves into its final month.

CBS saw pretty good repeat numbers from its laffer lineup of ”How I Met Your Mother” (1.7/5 in 18-49, 4.8 million viewers overall), ”2 Broke Girls” (1.8/5 in 18-49, 5.2 million viewers overall), ”Two and a Half Men” (2.0/5 in 18-49, 6.7 million viewers overall) and ”Mike and Molly” (1.8/4 in 18-49, 6.0 million viewers overall).

In the night’s 10 o’clock hour, NBC’s ”Smash” (2.1/5 in 18-49, 6.1 million viewers overall) was up 10% week to week, earning a share of the 18-49 lead with ABC’s special ”20/20: Dance Floor Confessional” (2.1/6 in 18-49, 10.9 million viewers overall), a behind-the-scenes look at ”Dancing With the Stars” that produced about the same rating as last week’s original episode of ”Castle.”

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: NBC, 3.2/8; ABC, 2.7/7; Fox, 2.2/6; CBS, 1.7/5; Univision, 1.6/4; CW, 0.5/1.

In total viewers: ABC, 15.2 million; NBC, 8.8 million; Fox, 6.9 million; CBS, 6.3 million; Univision, 3.9 million; CW, 1.1 million.
