HBO renews ‘Real Time’

Series picked up for two more seasons, through 2014

HBO has renewed “Real Time with Bill Maher” for its 11th and 12th seasons, ensuring its place on the cabler through 2014.

The renewal comes as part of a new three-year deal Maher has signed with HBO.

“Bill Maher’s irreverent wit and fearless insights make him the perfect observer for these unpredictable times,” HBO programming prexy Michael Lombardo said. “I’m delighted that we can continue to offer an uncensored forum for his original and thoughtful humor.”

“Real Time” has averaged 4.1 million viewers in gross audience per episode this season, its highest total in three years. It drew 959,000 viewers for the first airing of its most recent episode Friday.

Bill Maher, Scott Carter, Sheila Griffiths, Brad Grey, Marc Gurvitz and Billy Martin exec produce “Real Time,” which is directed by Paul Casey.
