FX is downright dogged in its appreciation of “Wilfred.”Cabler has ordered the laffer for a 13-episode third season. Production will begin in the spring and new episodes are set to debut in June.Series centers on the relationship between a slacker lawyer (Elijah Wood) and his imaginary canine. Jason Gann, who created and starred in the series in Australia as the dog, also co-stars in the Stateside version. For the third season, exec producer David Zuckerman will step down as showrunner but will remain involved in the storylines. Writers Reed Agnew and Eli Jorne have been elevated to both showrunners and exec producers. “Both we and David have great faith in the ability of Reed and Eli to seamlessly step up and take over the reins,” said Nick Grad, FX’s exec VP of original programming. “I have no doubt they’ll do a great job.” Other exec producers for “Wilfred,” which is produced by FX Prods., are Gann, Rich Frank, Jeff Kwatinetz, Randall Einhorn, Joe Connor and Ken Connor. The show’s second season ended in late September and averaged 2.6 million total viewers and 1.7 million adults in the 18-49 demo per week for its first airing.
