ESPN draws 4 million for Euro soccer finale

Spain's win generates substantial increase from 2008 contest

Spain’s dominating win over Italy in Sunday’s UEFA Euro championship game drew 4 million viewers to ESPN. That made it the most-watched Euro championship soccer match on any English-language TV network.

The 2008 final between Spain and Germany garnered 3.7 million viewers.

Among the 31 live matches telecast by the cabler, an average of 1.3 million viewers tuned in — up significantly from four years ago when 859,000 was the average for each match.

Cities that drew the most viewers for Sunday’s final were New York and Miami-Fort Lauderdale.
