Disney XD has greenlit production on single-cam pilot “Kirby Gates,” about a high school freshman who dreams of becoming a world-famous animator.

While navigating adolescence with a best friend, sister, twin enemies and a home-schooled girl next door, the 13-year-old title character has frequent daydreams that take him to a world where reality and animation mix.

David Bowers (“Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days,” “Flushed Away”) is exec producing the project for Horizon Prods. and will direct the pilot, scripted by Gabe Snyder and Mike Alber (“Ultradome”).

The scribes, who were recently staffed on ‘Death Valley’ at MTV and ‘Supah Ninjas’ on Nickelodeon and who have sold pilots to MTV and Spike, are repped by Mike Goldberg, Josh Adler, Mike Pelmont and Matt Ochacher at New Wave Entertainment, Melissa Orton at APA, and Howard Abramson and Jen Levy at Behr & Abramson. Bowers is repped by Adam Weinstein at Verve.
