Disney and Charter Communications have struck a new carriage deal that will yield various multiplatform extensions, the companies announced Monday.Pact will cover over 70 branded properties ranging from ABC to the new ABC News/Univision joint venture channel aimed at bilingual Hispanics. In addition, ESPN-owned The Longhorn Network will launch in Texas, Louisiana and Virginia systems in time for football season next year. The multi-year deal will also pave the way for the addition of myriad apps that will make Disney content available both in and out of the home across a range of devices. The Charter announcement is the second affiliate deal Disney completed this month, having disclosed a Cox Communications pact on Dec. 13. “Our agreement with Charter represents the sixth top 10 distributor renewal encompassing Disney’s full suite of products and services,” said David Preschlack, executive VP, affiliate sales and marketing, Disney & ESPN Networks Group.
