Disney Channel kibbles with ‘Bits’

Sitcom pilot to feature non-traditional storytelling

Disney Channel has greenlit scripted pilot “Bits & Pieces,” a comedy that will be told primarily through vignettes rather than the traditional half-hour script.

Production will begin in June on “Bits,” which features a blended family of four kids following the marriage of a high school’s basketball coach and school psychologist.

Episodes will unfold atypically, using short comedic anecdotes from the perspective of the children, primarily willful teenage girl Alanna, that focus on the funniest moments of each storyline.

Andy Fickman and Betsy Sullenger, who worked together on the feature film “You Again,” will exec produce along with series creators John D. Beck and Ron Hart, who were consulting producers on Disney Channel’s “Shake It Up.”

The cabler envisions “Bits” having the relatability of “Modern Family,” the hit sitcom from big brother ABC. “Bits” is a candidate for Disney Channel’s 2013 schedule.
